During the early hours of 20 November 2019, Philippi Police Head of Visible Policing, Lieutenant Colonel Colin Nathan, together with his team clamped down at a house in Columbine Place, Hanover Park in search of a suspect in a murder case.

This murder was committed on Sunday morning, 17 November 2019 at about 03:30 at Athburg Walk, Hanover Park. The deceased sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen, chest and buttocks and he later succumbed to his wounds at the medical facility where he was taken for medical assistance.

A 30 year old male suspect was arrested and will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 21 November 2019.

In an unrelated incident, two male suspects, aged 19 and 28, are appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on 20 November 2019, on a charge of murder. This comes after a 28 year old female was caught in a crossfire at Athburg Walk, Hanover Park.

On Sunday, 17 November 2019 at about 16:00, the 28 year old female sustained a gunshot wound in her upper body and she died on the scene due to her injuries. Rapid action by the police led to the arrest of the two murder suspects.

Police are investigating the cases of murder and it is yet to be determined if the incidents were gang related.
