Strides made to prevent and combat serious crimes in the Nyanga policing precinct resulted in the arrest of three men who were found to be in possession of an illegal firearm and a hijacked vehicle.

Western Cape Flying Squad members were conducting crime prevention in the area in the early hours of the morning of 4 September 2017, when they observed a suspicious silver grey VW POLO with three occupants in Sine Avenue, in Nyanga.

Upon preliminary investigation it was discovered that the car had been hijacked on 31 August 2017 in the Samora Machel area.

The three suspects were arrested and a silver Walther 7.65 firearm was recovered.

The suspects, aged 21, 32 and 39, are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court for the possession of a prohibited firearm and a hijacked vehicle, armed robbery and attempted murder.

The Western Cape police management applauds the commitment and zeal of police members to bring perpetrators to justice.
