South African Police Service (SAPS) detectives are actively pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for a brutal vigilante-style murder that occurred in Kraaifontein on Wednesday night. Three men, all in their thirties, were killed and set alight.

Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 22:00 and responded to Laboheme Street in the Wallacedene area, where the victims’ bodies were discovered.

According to preliminary information obtained by investigators, the victims had been accused by members of the community of involvement in criminal activity. Rather than allowing the legal process to run its course, they were subjected to a violent attack by the crowd.

The South African Police Service has issued a strong condemnation of the mob justice killing. In an official statement, the SAPS emphasized that vigilantism is a serious criminal offence.

“Taking the law into one’s own hands is a criminal offence, and those who participate in such acts will be prosecuted,” the service stated, urging communities to work with police instead of resorting to violence.
