MFULENI, WESTERN CAPE — Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the Mfuleni minibus taxi driver murder and a related shooting that left a female passenger injured. The arrests followed a swift response by local law enforcement during routine foot patrols, resulting in the seizure of multiple unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The incident unfolded on the night of Thursday, 29 October 2026, when members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit were conducting foot patrols along Ngubelani Street. Officers spotted three males running in their direction. Upon noticing the police presence, the men attempted to evade capture but were quickly apprehended. A subsequent search of the suspects revealed four 9mm pistols along with 147 rounds of ammunition in their possession.
Following the seizure of the illegal weapons, investigators were led to a nearby crime scene. There, they discovered the body of a 34-year-old minibus taxi driver slumped in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. A female passenger who was also wounded during the attack was urgently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects, whose ages range between 25 and 30, are now facing severe charges, including murder, attempted murder, and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner publicly welcomed the swift arrest of the suspects and the successful recovery of the firearms. Emphasizing the police’s commitment to public safety, the Commissioner reiterated that “no resources will be spared in ensuring that safety prevails and commuters are protected.”
The three accused are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2 November 2026.
