In the wee hours of Friday 22 July, Harare SAPS members in the Western Cape arrested three suspects for possession of a hijacked vehicle.
Members were on patrols when they received information about a hijacked Toyota mini bus taxi at Somerset taxi rank in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. The vehicle was reported as hijacked at approximately earlier just after midnight.
As they patrolled the area of Zone 14 in Makhaza, they spotted the vehicle that fitted the description given about the stolen vehicle. As the suspects noticed the presence of the police they tried to speed off but were cornered.
Three occupants were arrested and on further search members recovered a parcel of dagga (cannabis) and one 9mm pistol. The three suspects (two males and a female) aged between 21 and 27 are facing charges for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and an illegal firearm.
The suspects are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court on Monday 25 July.
