WESTERN CAPE – On 17 August 2023 at about 21:00, members attached to Operation Restore conducted an intelligence driven operation and responded to information from a concerned member of the community indicating that dagga being sold at a premises in Samson Crescent, Belhar.

The members operationalised the information and approached the identified premises where they ensued with a search. They found and confiscated dagga with a weight of about 1 kg, 74 dagga sachets, 46 dagga cigarettes, 235 dagga sweats and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Belhar SAPS on charges of dealing in dagga. The exhibits was booked in as evidence.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.

On Thursday 17 August 2023 members of Provincial Operation Restore were deployed in hotspot areas in Philippi East when they received information about a woman who is selling drugs at a premises in Ngqwagi Drive, Philippi East. They immediately went to the address and searched it. The members found and confiscated drugs wrapped in a towel which was hidden on top of the washing rail. Inside the towel they found 17 units of Ecstasy, 46 full Mandrax tablets and one half Mandrax tablet.

A 55-year-old female was arrested who is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court when charged.

While executing crime prevention patrols in Oliver Tambo Street, Cossovo informal settlement, members proceeded to an illegal tavern and instructed him to close the premises. Permission to search it was granted by the owner upon which the members found a baby brown .22 firearm with nine .22 rounds. The owner an adult male was arrested for possession of prohibited firearm and ammunitions and detained at Samora Machel SAPS.

Once charged he will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
