The swift response of SAPS, following the murder of a 40 year old male, with links to the taxi industry late on the afternoon of 23 February 2018, resulted in the apprehension of the suspect.

At approximately 16:50 the victim was shot and killed at the taxi rank in Lansdowne Road Philippi East. He was wearing a taxi association reflector jacket. SAPS members were deployed to the area and shortly afterwards, the suspect, a 52 year old man was arrested.

His 9 mm firearm and eight rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

He is expected to make a court appearance on Monday to face a charge of murder. The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General KE Jula praised his members for reacting so quickly to the murder and said that police will remain on high alert to quell the taxi violence in the province.
