In the Western Cape yesterday afternoon members attached to the Western Cape K9 Unit assisted by colleagues from South African Police Services (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies reacted to information of illegal diamond smuggling in the Klawer area.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted close to the Klawer weighbridge and stopped. The four occupants and the vehicle were searched which led to the discovery of a small parcel with eight uncut diamonds. One suspect, a 48 year old male from Eerterivier claimed ownership of the diamonds and he was arrested.

Once charged, the suspect is due to make a court appearance for the illegal possession of uncut diamonds, of which the value is yet to be established.

Crime is a daily occurrence and on the rise, whether it is smuggling, killing, theft or murders, there are the untold stories of people who commit criminality every day. The stories tell of how busy the police are trying to curb crime, yet there is never a decline in the stats. Crime is escalating and worsens each year.
