On Tuesday 7 December 2021 at about 21:40 members of the Delft Detective branch were busy with patrols in The Hague, Delft when they heard gunshots and drove in the direction of the sound of it.

The members saw a male on a bicycle and when they approached the suspect he started shooting at them.

They retaliated by shooting back at the suspect and wounded him on his arm. The suspect was arrested as a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition was found in his possession.

The suspect is at a medical facility under hospital guard.

Once charged he will appear in Bellville Magistrates’ court.

In an unrelated matter members of the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in the Mitchells Plain area to curb gang related shootings when they received information about firearms at a house in Freedom Park Tafelsig.

The members followed up on the information and searched the premises and found a rifle and a 9mm pistol with no serial number. Further investigation on the serial number of the rifle revealed that it was stolen in Durbanville.

A 43-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ court on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
