In the quest of SAPS in the Western Cape to ensure that all people in our province are and feel safe, Mfuleni Detectives, Western Cape Flying Squad Unit members and a Magistrate worked hand in hand to secure a lengthy sentence for a robber.

43 Years old Peter Masheza has been sentenced at Blue Downs Magistrate Court to 15 years imprisonment for robbery and five years for kidnapping which will run concurrently for 15 years.

On 8 August 2015 Peter asked for a light from the victim who was in the process of dropping off staff at approximately 21:00 at Bosasa temporary housing in Mfuleni.

Peter then pointed the victim with a firearm and took the vehicle from him, he then drove with the victim around in Khayelitsha. The victim was locked in a shack in Khayelitsha and was left there.

Peter with a female companion were arrested in Nyanga by the Flying Squad Unit members who were busy patrolling in Nyanga.

During the trial Peter tried to pin everything to the female companion and the female companion collaborated his story, however the Magistrate took the female companion for a drive as she claimed that she was driving the vehicle. It was proved that she could not drive, she did not even know how to put the vehicle into first gear.

She came out with the truth when she learned that she is caught out.

Mfuleni SAPS acting Station Commander Lt Col Fred Peter Jacobs welcomes the sentence by the Blue Downs Magistrate Court and thank the Investigation Officer Sergeant Vincent Malunda who worked tirelessly leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that Peter Masheza is sentenced for the crime that he committed.
