Suspect in Custody After Police Discover Arsenal, Including Signal Jammer

In a targeted operation against gang violence, serious crime, and organised criminal networks in the Western Cape, police have arrested a 31-year-old man for the illegal possession of multiple firearms, including two high-calibre assault rifles, and ammunition.

The arrest occurred on Friday night, September 12, 2025, in the Brown’s Farm area. The operation was a coordinated effort between the Maitland Flying Squad and the Cape Town K9 Unit.

According to police reports, members acted on intelligence regarding a wanted suspect and the presence of illegal firearms. Upon searching the identified premises, they discovered a significant cache of weapons.

The seized items include:

  • Two AK47 assault rifles with ammunition.

  • One .38 Special revolver.

  • A signal jammer.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The subsequent investigation has been referred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, for further investigation.

The arrested individual is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, September 15, 2025, at  the Athlone Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
