The vigilance of members from Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit on the night of 22 October 2020, at about 23:05 led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Eltister road, Lavender Hill.

The members were busy with foot patrols when they saw the suspect standing on the street and when he saw the police he started to run. The members gave chase and apprehended the suspect and upon searching him they found him in possession of a 9mm firearm with the serial number filed off and eight rounds of ammunition.

The suspect will appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2020.

In an unrelated incident, on 21 October 2020, at around 08:00, Mfuleni SAPS members on vehicle patrol noticed a suspicious-looking person in Waterberry Street, Wesbank.

Upon searching the 21-year-old male, they found an imitation firearm in his possession. The suspect will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates court on 23 October 2020, on a charge for possession of imitation firearm (homemade).
