In order to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of community members, police from Mitchells Plain acted swiftly whilst busy with crime prevention patrols in their area and receiving information about a man keeping a firearm in his house.

On Monday 17 July 2017, at about 23:05 a firearm was retrieved at Fontuin Street, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain when the members acted on the information and found a silver Norinco 9mm pistol with one magazine and 31 rounds of ammunition in the house.

A 34 year old male suspect was arrested.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s court, for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The actions of the police members ensured that yet another illegal firearm and ammunition were removed from the community.
