On Wednesday, 3 October 2018, police members conducted an operation with regards to information received about four individuals that are planning to rob a supermarket in Philippi East.

The information indicated that these individuals are driving a stolen vehicle with registration number CA 126-146 and are armed with two firearms.

This information was liaised with members of the Flying Squad who intercepted the suspects before they could commit the robbery.

Four suspects age 25, 27, 30 and 32 respectively were arrested in possession of two unlicensed firearms with six live rounds and the suspected stolen vehicle.

The suspects are detained and are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once they have been charged.
