A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in court in Strand on Monday, 2 November 2020, following his arrest after an off-duty police official was stabbed to death in Lwandle on Saturday evening 31 October 2020.

Sergeant Sibongile Teka, aged 34, was allegedly stabbed with a knife to death by the suspect in Michael Street, KwaNomzamo on Saturday evening at approximately 20:00. Reports also indicate that earlier in day the suspect and victim were involved in an altercation.

After the discovery of Sergeant Teka’s body, Lwandle police followed vital information that led them to the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and the murder weapon seized.

The SAPS management has conveyed condolences to the Teka family. Sergeant Teka was attached to Strand police station.
