Stolen property from a hijacking: Paarl policeman arrested

Diligent detective work led to the arrest of two suspects, a 31-year-old male and a 39-year-old Sergeant attached to Mbekweni Police Station in Paarl for receiving of stolen property on Monday, 18 February 2020 at about 17:15.

The arrest follows after a case of car hijacking was reported on 20 January 2020 at a transport company in Coaton Street in Wellington. Detectives investigating this matter received valuable information and obtained a search warrant to search a house in Sivivani Street, Mbekweni.

Upon searching the house, members found computer equipment, DSTV Explora, toners, cellphones, sim cards, cleaning material and stationary which are believed to be the property that was stolen during the car hijacking.

The member was subsequently arrested at her house and the second suspect handed himself over to the Police in Wellington. The possibility of more charges to be added cannot be ruled out at this stage.

The suspects are due to appear in the Wellington Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
