Steenberg violent crime, police launch operation, arrest 15 suspects

Steenberg residence woke up to heavy police presence in the early hours of the morning on 11 July 2019. Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies swamped the area in a cordon and the search operation aimed to rid the community of unlicensed firearms and drugs, detectives traced wanted suspects.

Several addresses were visited and people were stopped and searched. The operation was a success and a total of 15 suspects including eight wanted suspects were arrested. The wanted suspects are facing charges such as assault GBH, robbery, housebreaking and theft. The other seven suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and drugs. The suspects are aged between 22 and 61.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula assures the community that SAPS will continue to participate in joint operations to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book. He encourage the community to join hands with the police in the fight against crime.
