In the fight against gang violence and shootings in the Steenberg Policing Precinct during the month of August 2018 members of Steenberg SAPS, Operation Thunder, the Western Cape Tactical Response Team, POPS, the Railway Police, the Metro Police, Law Enforcement and Traffic yielded great success.

The members arrested 29 suspects between the ages of 15 and 49 for the possession of 22 unlicensed firearms and seven suspects for the possession of several calibres’ ammunition. These totals were achieved in the period from 1 to 29 August 2018.

The actions of police members and their partners ensured that these illegal and prohibited firearms and ammunition were removed from the Steenberg community. The operations in the area are set to continue in a bid to ensure the safety of all.

The Provincial management has commended the continued efforts of police officials, other Law Enforcement Agencies and communities of the Western Cape to fight gang violence and its manifestations.

All arrested suspects appeared in court on charges related to possession of illegal firearms, ammunition and prohibited firearms.
