In their efforts to curb the ongoing gang shootings in the Steenberg policing area, members attached to Operation Thunder intensified crime prevention operations in the area and it led to the arrest of a 27 year old man this morning, 16 August 2018 at 08:30.

He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. A 9mm pistol with 13 live rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

In a separate incident on Wednesday 15 August 2018 at about 13:45 during a joint operation with Steenberg SAPS, members from Operation Thunder and Law Enforcement arrested a 21 year old man and two firearms and ammunition were confiscated.

Police responded to a shooting complaint in the area and they received information about a suspect who had unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police followed up on the information and they arrested the suspect at a house in Lavender Hill. Two firearms and 24 live rounds of ammunition were found at the residence.

The suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, once they have been charged. The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, encouraged the community to continue sharing information that can lead to the removal of illegal firearms from the community as they threaten the safety of residents.
