Cape taxpayers will have to pay more than R3,5 million for the construction of the Bronze statue of the condemned Nelson Mandela.

The statue was erected on the balcony of the city hall in Cape Town where he made his first speech after FW de Klerk released the terrorist.

Helen Zille praised him for his first speech where he addressed the nation as a unity.
