Safer Festive Season operations in the Southern Cape led the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two unlicensed firearms in Beaufort West and Knysna respectively.

On Wednesday, 19 December 2018, various police units consisting of the Western Cape Provincial Detectives, Directorate for Priority Investigation which is based in George, Crime Intelligence, Public Order Police unit and K9 units conducted a disruptive operation at the house at Brander Street, Beaufort-west at about 01:00.

The police confiscated .22 revolver and ammunition as well as six cell phones at the premises. A 36 year old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property was also added.

The search and seizure operation took members of the SAPS Eden Cluster Crime Combating Team to a house at Rooi Els Street, Knysna on Thursday, 20 December 2018 at about 00:10. Upon searching the house they found a 357 Magnum Taurus revolver and fifty rounds inside a safe.

They arrested a 59 year old suspect on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Both firearms will be send to the SAPS forensic laboratory for ballistic tests.

These operations is in line with Safer Festive season operational plan to ensure maximum safety in our communities and similar operations will continue throughout the festive season period.
