The Bellville Magistrate’s court sentenced 33 year old Sakhile Thabo Valisi to a lengthy 26 years imprisonment for business robbery, attempted murder, possession of stolen property, possession of stolen motor vehicle, defeating the ends of justice and resisting arrest on Wednesday, 29 March 2023.

The sentence comes after two men entered a jewellery store in Somerset West on the 11 August 2020 and pointed firearms at the sales ladies and demanded money.

They robbed the business of jewellery and fled the scene with a motor vehicle.

Somerset West and Strand police were alerted by the security of the mall and gave chase. The suspects were cornered on the N2 opposite Khayelitsha and a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects in which one of the suspects was shot and killed.

The second suspect was arrested and jewellery was recovered by the police on the scene. He appeared at the Bellville Commercial court on Friday, 24 March 2023 and was found guilty on all the counts.

The Western Cape police management has welcomed the sentencing and lauded the arresting officers and the detectives for a job well done.
