Six suspects are due to appear in court on charges of possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition

The response of police members in the Western Cape resulted in the arrest of six suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed an prohibited firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents on Wednesday 27 September 2023.

The Boland K9 police members pursued information about firearms in the early hours Wednesday 27 September 2023. Based on the information, the members proceeded to an address in Marike De Klerk Street, Fisantekraal in the policing precinct of Durbanville. Upon arrival at the premises they ensued with a search of the premises, confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol as well as a Baby Browning pistol and an assortment of ammunition hidden in a drawer. They arrested and detained four suspects on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident Prince Alfred Hamlet police responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in progress at around 21:30. Upon entering Abraham Street, they saw an unknown man who fled the scene when he saw the patrol vehicle. Whilst the police members chased after the suspect, he dropped an object in full view of the police officers. The members apprehended the man and recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol. They arrested and detained the 42-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile Atlantis police acted on a tip off and pounced on an address in Diana Street, Saxonsea where they saw an unknown man who fled the scene. The members gave chase and apprehended the 24-year-old suspect, searched him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Bellville, Ceres and Atlantis Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
