Operations conducted in the week and over the weekend resulted in significant successes in the Nyanga Cluster.Five suspects were apprehended and various drugs and a firearm were confiscated during crime prevention operations conducted in Elsies River, Nyanga, Samora Machel, Bishop Lavis and Philippi East.

A 36 year old man was arrested on Friday night 18 October 2019, in possession of an illegal firearm in Nyanga. The members attached to the National Intervention Unit in Mthatha were on patrol in Lansdowne Road, Crossroads when they saw three armed suspects and when the suspects saw members approaching they fired shots at the members and the members retaliated wounding one suspect in the leg who was found in possession of a firearm, an Astra 7.65 which was reported stolen in Mthatha in 1998.

The suspect is in hospital under police guard. He will appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court once charged for the possession of an illegal firearm and attempted murder for his attack on police.

The Western Cape management commended the members for their dedication in the fight against crime.
