In a shocking act of violence, seven people were shot dead in the early hours of this morning at the Kanana Informal Settlement in Gugulethu. According to Western Cape Police Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi, unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of individuals who were socializing in a kitchen.

The attack occurred around 3 a.m. while three other men, asleep in another part of the house, managed to escape unharmed. Police officers on patrol were alerted to the shooting and discovered the victims, all men, with fatal gunshot wounds.

Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the killings, and no suspects have been arrested. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Advocate Thembisile Patekile visited the crime scene and instructed detectives from the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit to pursue all leads to ensure justice is served.

This incident marks the third mass shooting in Cape Town this week. On Thursday, three people were killed in Philippi, and another triple murder was reported in Samora Machel on Tuesday. Police have expressed deep concern over the surge in violent crime and urged anyone with information to contact CrimeStop at 08600 10111 or use the anonymous MySAPS mobile app.

Investigations are ongoing, with police appealing to the public for assistance in solving the case. The identities of the deceased have been withheld pending family notifications.
