Efforts to ensure that criminals in this province are brought to book are yielding positive results. On Thursday, 23 May 2019 ten suspects were arrested for charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, house robbery and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH). Eight suspects were apprehended during a nine hour tracing operation conducted last night by the station’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit for crimes committed during last month and this month.

Three suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday, 24 May 2019.

Two suspects aged 23 and 25 were arrested on 23 May 2019, and are appearing in Athlone Magistrate’s Court facing robbery charges. They were arrested with the assistance of the community members of Crossroads after they robbed two victims of their cellphones.

The third suspect, aged 35 is appearing in Philippi Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder.

The four remaining suspects aged between 16 and 28 are due to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 May 2019 on charges of murder, house robbery and assault to do grievous bodily harm.
