Serious and violent crime: ‘Operation Lockdown’ makes 232 arrests, CT
Serious and violent crime: 'Operation Lockdown' makes 232 arrests, CT

With serious and violent crimes in the sights of Operation Lockdown, scores of criminals have been arrested during several operations and interventions that have been conducted in identified hotspot areas between Thursday and Saturday 7 September 2019.

Fourteen suspects were apprehended for being in possession of eight unlicensed firearms and 59 rounds of ammunition and 20 were arrested for the possession of dangerous weapons.

A total of 70 suspects were arrested on drug related charges and 75 wanted suspects are now behind bars. The total number of arrests for the mentioned period stands on 232, while 870 litre of liquor and an assortment of drugs have been confiscated.

Joint forces comprising SAPS, SANDF and other law enforcement agencies searched a total of 3786 persons and 459 vehicles and traffic fines totalling R271000-00 were issued. Drug outlets and 35 unlicensed liquor premises were also targeted.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to make their respective court appearances this week.

The acting provincial commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lt Gen Sindile Mfazi expressed his appreciation towards the respective forces for their tangible contribution in bringing safety and stability to this province.
