Two guards were arrested on Friday in Milnerton, Cape Town in connection with a recent cash-in-transit robbery in Mitchells Plain, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the guards, aged 37 and 38, were arrested at a well-known security company in Milnerton and shortly after reporting for duty on Friday morning.

“The alleged robbery occurred late last month at Town Centre, Mitchells Plain, when a cash van was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, crew and driver were reportedly accosted by unknown number of suspects and robbed of firearms as well as bags containing cash before suspects fled the scene,” Ramovah said.

“No shots were fired, no injuries sustained at the time.”

Ramovah said the men are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges relating to armed robbery.
