In the Western Cape, police stations are 85% understaffed, with more than 2 300 posts that were vacant in 2014.

Nearly 2,400 police officers left employment between 2011/12 due to resignations and dismissal. More than 128 stations are understaffed, which is one of the reasons for the rising crime and gang violence in the province, where many Transvalers moved to, because it would have been “safer” there.
