A 19-year-old male was arrested on Thursday, 14 May 2026 at approximately 06:30 following the vigilance of Grassy Park South African Police Service (SAPS) members.
According to police reports, officers were patrolling Duiker Avenue in Lotusriver when they observed a male wearing a blue jacket and black-and-white pants, carrying a blue coloured sling bag around his neck.
Upon noticing the marked police vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee. Officers caught up with him and conducted a search. Inside the sling bag, they discovered a Norinco .45 mm pistol, ten .45 mm rounds, and two small sachets containing tik.
Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in Alberton in November 2019.
The 19-year-old was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs. He was detained at Grassy Park SAPS and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
