SAPS and SANDF patrols recover illegal firearm, drugs, Marikana, CT

On Thursday, 9 July 2020, at 10:00 members of Philippi East Crime Prevention Unit assisted by the National Defence Force, performed foot patrols in Marikana informal settlement, Philippi East.

A community member pointed out a known drug house to the SAPS members where alleged irregularities occur frequently.

Initially the occupants denied SAPS access to the premises, but once access was gained the premises was searched and they confiscated one Silver Star firearm and one round of ammunition. Continuous searching led to the confiscation of five full-, six halve and three quarter mandrax tablets and dagga with an estimated street value of R500.

Two men aged 30 and 34 were arrested, and once charged they will appear in Athlone Magistrate Court on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as the illegal possession of drugs.
