The proliferation and eradication of drugs remains a high priority in the Western Cape, especially with the strategic deployment of members attached to the Eden Rural Flying Squad on our main entry and exit routes as well as urban routes.
Again this strategy yielded excellent results when members attached to the Provincial Rural Flying squad confiscated 1039 Mandrax tablets to the street value of more than R62 000-00 in Oudtshoorn on Sunday, 18 July 2021 and arrested a 39-year-old suspect from Oudtshoorn.
Members were busy with Crime Combating patrols when they spotted a suspicious vehicle travelling in Langenhoven Street, near the Engen garage in Oudtshoorn. When approached by the members, the vehicle sped off. While pursuing the vehicle, the driver of the car threw out a plastic bag onto the sidewalk. It was later discovered that the bag contained Mandrax Tablets.
Members in pursue managed to pull over the vehicle in Zebra Road, Bridgeton, Oudtshoorn.
The 39-year-old driver was arrested on the spot and accompanied the members back to the location of the bag where they discovered the concealed Mandrax Tablets. The Mandrax to the estimated value of R62 340-00 was confiscated and reserved as evidence.
The 39-year-old suspect from Oudtshoorn appeared in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 20 July 202, after being charged with dealing alternatively possession of drugs (Mandrax).
Provincial Police management in the Western Cape has lauded the members of the Rural Flying Squad for their valiant efforts to root out and eradicate the proliferation of drugs along our main entry and exit routes.
