As Women’s Day celebrations unfold across the Western Cape Province, police are hard at work disarming suspects and bringing those on the wrong side of the law to book.
The vigilance of members of the Harare Crime Prevention Unit and the Harare Carjacking Team saw the arrest of a 20-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a hijacked vehicle in Khayelitsha Tuesday morning, at about 10:30.
The members had responded to a complaint of a hijacking when the suspect was arrested. Both the suspect’s vehicle and the hijacked vehicle were seized. More arrests are imminent.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court.
In an unrelated matter, members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit arrested five suspects between the ages of 29 and 38 for the possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and drugs in the Delft policing precinct in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The members followed up information they received of a possible robbery that was planned to take place when the suspects were arrested.
Two firearms, an imitation firearm as well as drugs were confiscated.
The suspects are due to make a court appearance in the Bellville Magistrates court once they have been charged.
