On Monday, 25 December 2017, at about 03:00, Mitchells Plain police were busy with crime prevention and visible patrols in Weltevreden Park Way, Westgate when they spotted a suspicious Toyota Avanza.

The driver refused to stop when signaled by police who then gave chase.

When the vehicle stopped, a male climbed out of the vehicle and a firearm fell on the ground.

A female occupant then also climbed out the vehicle and informed police that she was pointed with a firearm and raped by the suspect and an accomplice.

Members confiscated a black .38 Special Rossi with serial number, one magazine and four live rounds. A 22 year old male was arrested for possession of a firearm without a licence and a second charge of possession of ammunition. Further charges are expected to be added.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court today.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula commended the members and said that their actions ensured that more illegal firearms and ammunitions were removed from the communities of Mitchells Plain.
