SAPS have welcomed the 15 years direct imprisonment of 44-year-old, Zamxolo Zama Magquba, on Monday, 27 January 2020 by the Blue Downs Regional Court for the rape of a minor.

Magquba was convicted on a charge of rape of the 11-year-old daughter of his girlfriend at around 14:00 on 2 September 2017.

The victim, who was residing with her grandmother, was sent to fetch money from her money in Pedro Street, Wallacedene. Upon arrival she was lured into the perpetrators home, under the guise of her mother sleeping inside.

He immediately locked the door behind them and raped the child. A neighbor heard the child screaming and came to knock on the door. When he opened the door the child managed to escape.

The investigating Officer successfully opposed bail and the rapist has been imprisoned till he was convicted on 25 June 2019.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on 27 January 2020.
