Clusters executed various operations in an effort to reduce violent and serious crime over the month end period starting from Thursday 28 February 2019, till Sunday. The abuse of alcohol continues to be a generator of serious crime hence members embarked on strategic operations to close down illegal liquor outlets. In the period specified over 3000 litres of liquor were seized during several raids targeting illegal liquor outlets.

An assortment of drugs comprising Crystal Meth (Tik), mandrax powder, heroine, whoonga, 12 kg of dagga and cocaine were confiscated. Meanwhile 430 mandrax tablets were also confiscated.

In Nyanga Cluster two suspects are expected to appear in court after they were arrested for rape and murder this weekend. A 40 year old man was arrested for allegedly raping another man in Marikana Informal Settlement in Philippi East. The victim was drinking with friends when the suspect took him away from the crowd and raped the victim. The suspect ran away when one of the friends found him in the act. Another suspect 39 was also arrested on Friday after he allegedly stabbed a 32 year old man on Monday night in Browns Farm.

Both suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on murder and rape charges.

Philippi East and Nyanga SAPS a total of seven suspects aged between 22 and 31 years involved in two house robbery and robbery cases that occurred on Friday 1 March 2019, were arrested. Two men entered a house while the complainant was sleeping and took a television and jewellery.

Meanwhile five suspects were also arrested on Friday afternoon after they allegedly robbed a vehicle in Manzana Street in Browns Farm.

In Elsies River a 66 year old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a 19 year old boy in Heuningspruit Court, Avonwood in Elsies River.

In Bishop Lavis a 31 year old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a 26 year old man on 2 March 2019, in the corner of Sparrow and Swan Roads in Bishop Lavis.

Members of Tygerberg Cluster arrested a total of 124 suspects for possession of drugs.

In George a police narcotics dog reacted positively to drugs concealed in a Ford Ranger vehicle and drugs worth a substantial amount were recovered and a suspect arrested.

In Blue Downs Cluster police recovered a hijacked Kia Picanto.
