The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata, gave praise to the investigation and prosecution teams for securing a sentence of 55 years’ imprisonment for rape and murder, of a four year old child in July 2018.

Crimes against women and children are the priority of SAPS, and every endeavour will be made to apprehend perpetrators, as indicated in this investigation by the investigating officer Detective Constable Luthando Mqikwa of Harare SAPS after the conviction and sentencing of 35 year old Andile Jamda by Cape Town High Court on Tuesday 1 December 2020.

On 23 July 2018 the four year old girl was raped and murdered in 40 Section Makhaza, Khayelitsha. She was allegedly lured by the accused to his shack where he raped and killed her. The victim was found with multiple stab wounds all over her body and her throat was slit. Her lifeless body was dumped at a nearby dumping site.

The initial investigation led to the arrest of Andile Jamda who was known to the victim as they live in the same area. He was never granted bail until he was sentenced to 55 years direct imprisonment

The Provincial Commissioner says that this thorough investigation has paid off and that this conviction must send a strong message to would-be criminals that the SAPS is relentless in its efforts to fight crimes against women and children and will hunt down the perpetrators of these crimes so that they will face the full might of the law.
