An inten sive investigation by George detectives into the gruesome death of Emmerencia Roman (19) from Wilderness just outside George, landed a 27-year-old man behind bars following his arrest on 5 September 2022.

Investigation reveals that on 9 December 2019 at about 06:50, police attended to a scene at Kleinkrantz Squatter Camp, Wilderness near George where the body of the victim was found with open wounds to her neck in a pathway by a member of the public.

She was later declared dead by paramedics. Crime scene experts combed the scene for clues and a murder case was subsequently opened.

Further investigation later suggested that she was also sexually violated prior to her death and an additional charge of rape was added to the probe.

The accused appeared in the George Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 6 September 2022. He is facing charges of murder and rape.

This matter was postponed to 3 October 2022 for further investigation and the accused was remanded in custody.

The investigation into this case is at an advance stage and is still underway.

This arrest is in line with the persistent efforts to eradicate the scourge of Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
