The SAPS has the responsibility to continuously follow up information received and to act on these tip offs as the community remains an integral part of being the eyes and ears of the police. Active community participation is pivotal in our fight against crime.

On Friday 15 February 2019, the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 58 year old man at a house in North West Street, Rocklands after receiving an anonymous tip off that a large quantity of drugs are being stored at the house. At about 22:15 members immediately followed up on information received and they proceeded to the house where they searched it.

Inside the house members found 100 grams of tik, 17 grams of crushed mandrax tablets, 15 grams of tik, 18 grams of crushed mandrax, 60 mandrax tablets, one straw of mandrax, 65 large plastic packets of tik, 43 small plastic packets of tik, one large plastic packet of tik, 79 plastic packets of Rocks, and one plastic packet of crushed mandrax.

The drugs have an estimated street value of about R60 000.

The suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Monday 18 February 2019, on charges relating to possession of drugs.

In a separate incident at about 19:00 our members arrested a 37 year old man for the illegal possession of ammunition in Garcia Street, Tafelsig after the members responded to a shooting incident in Tafelsig. The members followed up information which led them to a house in Garcia Street where the suspect was hiding. The members found in his possession two rounds of .38 calibre ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’ Court on Monday, 18 February 2019 on a charge relating to the illegal possession of ammunition without a licence.
