The illegal drug trade received a heavy blow when an intelligence driven operation as part of the Safer Festive Season operations to eradicate the proliferation of drugs in the Garden Route resulted in the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R570 000 (five hundred and seventy thousand rands) at a house at Zone 5, Thembalethu, George on Thursday, 24 December 2020 at about 18:30.

Members attached to the Public Order Police, Crime Intelligence, Provincial Detectives (Narcotics Section) and the Eden Cluster Crime Combating Team descended on a drug outlet. A search of the premises ensued when the members found large plastic containers with dagga stashed inside. The police confiscated 71 kilogram of dagga packed in 1kg vacuum packets and 10 kg parcels ready for delivery or collection.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs. The suspect is still in custody and he will appear in the Thembalethu Magistrates’ court on Monday, 28 December 2020.

Western Cape police management commended the members for their vigilance in removing drugs from the street that was destined for distribution into communities.
