SAPS endeavours to break the back of abalone poaching in the Western Cape have proven to be successful when members of the Tactical Response Team arrested two abalone poachers on 13 April 2021.

The members reacted on intelligence of an abalone drying facility situated in Bremen Road in the Airport industrial area, Bishop Lavis and conducted a search operation, which led to the discovery of wet and dried abalone and drying equipment with an estimated value of R3 million.

Two vehicles were also confiscated.

The two suspects aged 23 and 43 are expected to make their court appearance in Bishop Lavis once they have been charged.
