The continued efforts by police in the Eden Cluster to rid communities of drugs, firearms and ammunition led to the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of more than R250 000 as well as ammunition during “Vhuthu Hawe” operations on Thursday, 1 July 2021.

An intelligence driven operation by the Eden Cluster Crime intelligence and Crime Combating Team took police to a house at Willie Schaap Street, Lawaaikamp, George at about 15:30. Upon searching the premises the members found 61 bankies of Tik. The police arrested a 65-year-old woman on a charge of possession of Tik.

The forces proceeded to Uniondale where they conducted a sting operation at a house at Haarlem. An extensive search of the premises yielded positive results when the members confiscated 25,2 kilogram of dagga and 6 grams Tik with an estimated street value of R252 900 altogether. This operation subsequently led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Meanwhile, on the same day at about 16:20 Thembalethu police members on patrol acted on information from the public when they embarked on an operation at a house at Bob Street, Thembalethu. A search of the house ensued when the members found three rounds of ammunition, small quantities of dagga and two laptops inside. The police arrested a 4- year-old man on charges of unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.

Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brigadier Phumzile Cetyana, had nothing but praise for these members. He said, “These operations would be maintained throughout the weekend to ensure that the public are and feel safe”.

All arrested will appear in court once charged.
