With our focus on crime generators such as the unlawful possession of firearms members of Operation Restore arrested a 22-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. The members were busy with stop and search operations in the Samora Machel area to curb robberies in the area when they saw a male who tried to run away when he saw the police approaching.

The suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a firearm.

Members of Operation Restore also arrested a 37-year-old male for the possession of drugs in Lwandle Thursday evening at about 22:45. The members searched identified premises and found 4000 mandrax tablets and three bags containing crystal meth hidden in a suitcase.

The estimated street value of the drugs is about R1 million.

The suspects will appear in the Athlone and Strand Magistrates courts respectively on Monday.
