R1.11 million worth of abalone recovered, Khayelitsha

An accident scene in the Khayelitsha policing precinct led the police to the discovery of 3717 units of abalone, worth an estimated street value of R1.11 million.

Information we received revealed that a white Ford Figo motor vehicle was found abandoned by police at the intersection of Lansdowne Road and Mew Way in Khayelitsha.

The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene and the police are now hot on his heels.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, is pleased with the seizure and sends a strong warning to criminals who are dealing in our maritime resources that their loot will be confiscated and that they will be hunted down by police.
