Public Order police have been deployed to various locations in Cape Town in response to protest action that started early this morning, 25 September 2018, in areas such as Kensington, Phillipi, Bonteheuwel and Bellville.

In Bonteheuwel on the corner of Bluegum Road and Jakes Gerwel Drive eight people were arrested for public violence following run ins with police that resulted in the disruption of traffic.

Stun grenades and rubber bullets were fired in an effort to restore calm.

Police continue to monitor the situation urging protesters to carry themselves in an orderly manner that does not infringe on the rights of others. Several roads remain closed as police assess the situation in an effort to prevent congestion.
