Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has announced a major breakthrough in preserving over 3,000 jobs at the Ashton Canary after Tiger Brands finalized the sale of its deciduous fruit division to a local consortium.
The deal ensures the continuation of operations at the Langberg facility, a critical employer for both permanent and seasonal workers. Premier Winde emphasized the importance of protecting jobs in the agri-processing sector, calling it a “cornerstone of the local economy.”
Western Cape Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ivan Meyer highlighted the role of the agreement in the province’s “Growth for Jobs” strategy. The announcement follows recent labor statistics confirming the Western Cape as South Africa’s leader in employment rates.
