In line with the SAPS’ objective of preventing and combating crime that threatens the safety and security of communities who use railway services, SAPS members arrested two suspects, aged 25 and 30, for possession of stolen property.

On Friday, 2 March 2018, SAPS members received information regarding suspects who were vandalising Prasa rail infrastructure. Members followed up the information and with the help of other law enforcement agencies conducted an operation at a premises in Waterburg Street, Heideveld.

An extensive search led to the discovery of large quantities of copper stored in the house.

Members seized the copper and arrested two suspects, a 25 year old male and a 30 year old female, under Criminal Amendment Act 18 of 2015 and possession of stolen property.

Suspects were detained at Manenberg SAPS for further investigation, and are due to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court once charge.

The items seized after been identified by relevant in house technicians as rail overhead copper cables were handed over to Prasa and it was identified by Prasa.
