Possession of drugs, 154 suspects arrested, Nyanga Cluster

The Nyanga Cluster includes the following stations: Elsies River, Bishop Lavis, Guguletu, Manenberg, Nyanga and Philippi East.

Members in the Nyanga Cluster worked tirelessly during this week and they have searched a total of 60 houses and have arrested a total of 154 suspects for the illegal possession of drugs.

Drugs confiscated included 5g Heroin, 67g tik, 8702 Mandrax tablets and 268g dagga.

A total of 263 320 ml of alcohol was confiscated from non-compliant liquor outlets during shebeen operations throughout the Cluster.

During the 17 tracing operations conducted, 53 wanted suspects were arrested on outstanding cases.

Five illegal firearms were recovered in the Cluster, including three firearms recovered in Nyanga, one in Philippi East and one in Elsies River. Five stolen vehicles were recovered and a total of 197 Vehicle Check Points (VCPs) were held throughout the Cluster.

Five arrests were executed for the possession of dangerous weapons and 16 suspects were arrested for the possession of suspected stolen goods.

Members in Manenberg, Bishop Lavis and Elsies River also succeeded in confiscating three prohibited firearms.

Police in the Cluster were applauded for their hard work and dedication, their commitment and their efforts in the fight against crime. An appeal is made to all people in the Nyanga Cluster to continue assisting the police in their efforts to combat crime, and to remain vigilant at all times in order to provide the police with information on criminal activities.
