POLITICAL MYOPIA AND POLITICAL IMMORALITY

POLITICAL MYOPIA AND POLITICAL IMMORALITY

NO ANGELS IN WESTERN CAPE POLITICS

The countless failings over the centuries by political systems and political parties is due to two simple facts which I call Political Myopia by the populace, by you and I and our forefathers, and Political Immorality.

POLITICAL MYOPIA

Why I say this, is because the populace continues to be brainwashed into believing that the political system in which it finds itself is the correct and only one, that their preferred political parties are infallible and that loyalty to their political party is paramount, regardless of failed policies and broken promises.

Nothing could be more misguided, yet the populace doesn’t want to see, or even think about, why their extreme Political Myopia borders on total blindness to reality, or that things can and should be changed when pain and suffering persists under a particular political construct, let alone contemplating that their party could be wrong.

This is of course an ancient and global phenomenon, that has always eventually resulted in mass suffering through wars, violence, unemployment, poverty, starvation and misery for the populace, while those that pull the strings, bask in their power and wealth that we, the populace, so freely hand to them on the plate of our own Political Myopia election after election. False promises are simply not recognized. It’s entirely our own fault.

POLITICAL IMMORALITY

Since time immemorial, political party leaders have known all about Political Myopia and, have exploited this most brutally and unscrupulously to gain power, control, and wealth at all costs. The endgame being total domination over every lever of power, over its opposing political parties and over the populace. Afterall, that’s how the current Political system in which we find ourselves, works.

This is precisely the reason why the system cannot have the populace as its priority concern, other than to ensure it remains compliant to the wishes of those in power.

The greatest tragedy of politics is the absence of moral integrity, deception of the populace, and ignoring to the “will of the people” they falsely claim to serve.

THE WESTERN CAPE IS NO EXCEPTION

According to an independent poll mid last year, already almost half of the WC electorate was in favor of the Western Cape seceding from South Africa to become a Sovereign Independent State and, based on a political system similar to the Swiss Canton system., direct democracy. This number is highly likely now to be well over half of the electorate, or the “absolute majority”, as the call for independence has continued to grow unabated since then.

The envisaged Swiss Canton System is the exact opposite to the current system of Top-down domination under which South Africa struggles.

To make matters worse, the Western Cape electorate has never voted to be governed by the current national centrist ANC governing party yet is saddled with it and has no way to be governed by those it elected. A crass case of inescapable domination and therefore, a failed political system.

FROM THE LARGEST TO THE SMALLEST POLITICAL PARTY

Although these same polls showed a growing number of the DA’s own voters, some 65% in fact, favor an independent Western Cape, the ruling DA is engaging in both deception and in ignoring the “will of its own voters” at the same time.

On the one hand the DA is pursuing a narrative aimed at trying to force the National ANC government to hand over some of its powers to its main opposition party in the WC. This is of course highly unlikely to succeed, yet the populace will be manipulated into thinking it’s a good idea.

On the other hand, the real deception can be seen in a recent speech a few days ago, where Helen Zille tried to explain why she seeks to form a national coalition government after the 2024 elections, with the ANC.

A shocking admission, especially as in the lead up to the recent elections, the DA threatened the Western Cape voters that, if they didn’t vote for the DA, the ruling ANC would move in to govern the Western Cape. Memories of the “Swart gevaar” narrative of years gone by spring to mind. A perceived potent threat, despite its mathematical impossibility, which much of the electorate believed due to their Political Myopia.

EVEN FRINGE POLITICAL PARTIES LACK POLITICAL MORALS

Take the case of Capexit (non-profit organization), the largest civic movement in South Africa, striving for a referendum on Western Cape Independence, proposing the Swiss Canton system, and with almost 1 million signed mandates from people of all cultures, religions, and political parties.

Clearly and unequivocally, Capexit is not a political party, with no desire ever to govern, and nor do any of its many unpaid volunteers, passionately seeking a better future for themselves and all the citizens of the Western Cape.

Yet Capexit had its integrity undermined by non-other than a small fringe political party trying desperately to gain a seat in local government, at all costs by pretending to be Capexit, and confusing the electorate.

The deception they employed was as simple as it was destructive to the entire independence movement. It caused a few months of confusion and temporarily slowed the momentum of the independence movement as a result.

The party simply changed their abbreviation on the ballot forms from its logical “CIP” to “Capexit” and to this day continue to sometimes call themselves Capexit, and at other times the Cape Independence Party… to this day in fact many are still confused and many admit to having made a mistake during the elections.

In an article yesterday on IOL Cape Times, written by Siphokazi Vuso, the journalist mistakenly refers to Capexit stating that it is expected there will be further legal action after a recount of the votes by the IEC. Capexit however is not a political party, has not asked for a recount and is not in any way involved. It’s the CIP, Cape Independence Party, doing so, not Capexit.

The confusion caused by this tiny party is simply ludicrous and the deception should never have been allowed by the IEC in the first place, but that’s a story for another day

The simple reality, however, is that the CIP has approximately 7.000 voters, whereas Capexit has over 825.000 registered mandates and cannot be voted for.

Is this Political Immorality the acceptable new normal?

The combination of Political Immorality and Political Myopia is a fatal formula!
