SAPS endeavours to ensure that offenders are brought to book paid off on 9 September 2020, when a suspect was arrested with abalone and three others with firearms. Members attached to the National Intervention Unit reacted on intelligence of a vehicle transporting abalone illegally on the N2 in Nyanga.
The Toyota Corolla was pulled over and the driver, a 35-year-old male from Paarl was arrested for being in possession of five bags comprising 328 units of abalone.
In an unrelated incident, members of Samora Machel police station were approached by a complainant who reported that he was pursuing his vehicle that was hijacked in Mfuleni minutes earlier. The members managed to stop the vehicle and arrested a 27-year-old suspect in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.
In Delft, members of the Flying Squad followed up on a tip off and arrested two suspects aged 24 and 34 who were in possession of a 7.65 pistol and ammunition.
Once charged, the four suspects are expected to make their court appearances in Athlone and Blue Downs to face the charges against them.
